Kamel Al-Asmar’s Bio

Kamel Al-Asmar is a young Arab entrepreneur, based in Jordan, Founder & CEO of Nakhweh; the first development and volunteerism network for the Arab world. Founded in 2009, Nakhweh is concerned with connecting people working in the development sector to expand opportunities, exchange ideas, share knowledge, as well as promote and share a culture of civic engagement and volunteerism in the region.

Kamel is also Founder & Chief Communications Strategist at Ideation Box; a startup founded in 2009 and built its reputation as a leading provider of creative development and corporate communication solutions. By working with top names, including the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, Mowgli Foundation, INJAZ, Jordan River Foundation, Nuqul Groups, UNDP Egypt and more, the company provides full online presence and multimedia services, from branding, information architecture, web design and development to social media management, in addition to forming various offline initiatives to maximize the reach and impact of its clients.

Kamel is actively involved in social entrepreneurship and the empowerment of under-served communities. He works very closely with youth to spread a culture of proactive citizenship, critical thinking and social responsibility.

Kamel joined the Sandbox Network on 2014, and for his work on Nakhweh, he was named in Forbes Magazine 30 under 30 Social Entrepreneurs – Class 2014, he also received the prestigious Ashoka Fellowship for Social Entrepreneurs in 2012. In addition, he has been recognized by the King Abdullah II Award for Youth Innovation & Achievement (KAAYIA) as one of the top ten finalists for the year 2011 for which he received a grant during the special meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) at the Dead Sea. During the WEF, he was also selected as a member of the Global Shapers community. In 2007, Kamel made it to the top ten finalists of Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Competition.

Kamel holds a bachelors degree in Computer Science from Princess Sumaya University for Technology in Amman, and held former positions in usability and information architecture, open source development, web design and social media with Akhtaboot; the leading career network for the middle east, and Jawaker; the largest card gaming community in the Arab world.
